The tones beyond the SKIN.

Whispered, unseen and resilient narratives that shape identity across generations. Performed by two eurasian artists, the work explores the stories etched into brown skin. Blending dance and spoken word, SKIN invites audiences into an intimate journey through love, loss and the strength that lives within us.

Through raw physicality and poetic storytelling, SKIN guided audiences through deep introspection of the self, shaped not only by the societal gaze but by the ongoing act of reclaiming identity from systems designed to erase it. The work created a space where deeply personal stories could find voice where family, memory and identity met under the weight of history and the light of resistance.

Examining the complex bonds that tether us across generations, the performance revealed both scars and triumphs that rarely find space in the spotlight. Through movement and voice, Ian and Nadiah brought their truths to the surface with honesty, vulnerability and power.

“It’s important for all of us to share our pain and deepest desires and let them be seen, heard, felt and nurtured,” said Ian de Mello. “This show is as much about healing as it is about connection.”

Amazing work! Was kind of a historical moment to see krump like that at the blue room, and street dancers coming in to watch, really special! Paving the way for street dance boorloo to start taking up space in performing arts sector.
